Types of members

STATUTES OF THE THEMATIC CENTER FOR RESEARCH IN NEUROSCIENCES

1.MEMBERS OF THE CENTER
Researchers who join the CTRN must be aware of its statutes and regulations and have agreed to comply by them. They are grouped into different categories according to their academic rank and function.

1.1 Regular Members
Can be appointed a regular member of the CTRN, any professor or researcher affiliated with Laval University who devotes at least 50% of its research activities to the field of neuroscience. He or she must pursue research activities in keeping with the Center's scientific program and, to the extent possible, mentor graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and / or clinical trainees in neuroscience-related programs. It is expected that the regular member's research activities will be funded by recognized organizations and that he / she will collaborate in the conduct of the Center's research program and participate in its activities on a regular basis. The regular members are appointed for a period of four years by the Center's Executive Committee and the review of their statutes normally takes place during the preparation of the application for recognition to be submitted to the Research Commission. Regular members fall into one of three categories: a) regular researcher, b) clinician researcher, or c) junior researcher.

1.1.1 Regular Researcher Members

CTRN's regular researcher may be a professor or researcher affiliated with Université Laval who devotes at least 50% of his or her research activities to the field of fundamental or clinical neuroscience. He or she must pursue research activities consistent with the Center's scientific programming and, as far as possible, supervise graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in programs related to fundamental or clinical neuroscience. The regular member's research activities are expected to be funded by recognized organizations of at least $ 25,000 / year (Grants and Scholarships with Peer Review, or Research Contracts; Last 3 years). The regular members are appointed for a period of four years by the Center's Executive Committee and the review of their statutes normally takes place during the preparation of the application for recognition to be submitted to the Research Commission.

1.1.2 Clinician-Researcher Members

CTRN Clinician-Scientist may be a Clinician-Scientist affiliated with Laval University who holds a doctoral-level degree in Human Health (MD, DDS, etc.), a valid Practice Permit, and demonstrates interest obvious for the research, teaching and training of trainees in clinical or basic research in a field related to neuroscience. He or she must pursue research activities consistent with the Center's scientific programming and, where possible, mentor clinical trainees in programs related to neuroscience. The clinical researcher members are appointed for a period of four years by the Center's Management Committee and the review of their statutes normally takes place during the preparation of the application for recognition to be submitted to the Research Commission. They enjoy the same rights and privileges as regular research members.

1.1.3 Junior Researcher Members

Can be appointed as a junior researcher member of the CTRN, any professor or researcher recently recruited in the Laval University network and who, in the judgment of the Center's management, has a very promising research file. He or she devotes at least 50% of his/her research activities to the field of neuroscience and his/her work is in line with the Center's scientific program. He or she is expected to receive operating funding from recognized organizations within a period of three years following admission as a junior researcher. The performance of the young researcher will not be counted in these first three years. The young researcher members are appointed for a period of three years by the Center's Executive Committee and the revision of their statutes normally takes place during the preparation of the application for recognition to be submitted to the Research Commission or when obtaining major funding. They enjoy the same rights and privileges as regular research members.

1.2 Associated members

Can be appointed associate member of the CTRN, any professor or researcher who pursues research work within the framework of the scientific programming of the CTRN, either individually or in collaboration with a regular member of the Center, but who does not qualify as a regular member. He or she enjoys a statutes appropriate to his classification and his work: professor or researcher affiliated with Laval University, where less than half of the research activities relate to the Center's projects, visiting professor, researcher, researcher another university laboratory, or a government or industrial laboratory. Associate members are appointed for a period of four years by the Centre's Executive Committee and the review of their statutes normally takes place during the preparation of the request for recognition to be submitted to the Research Commission. Associate members can only apply to the Centre's support programs in collaboration with a regular member.

1.3 Student-researcher members

Any student registered in the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies of Laval University who is preparing a thesis, a dissertation or an essay that is part of the Centre's scientific programming, under the supervision or co-direction of a regular member of the Center. Student-researcher members benefit from the services of the CTRN, and their status must be validated annually.

1.4 Postdoctoral trainee members

Can be appointed postdoctoral trainee member of the CTRN any holder of a PhD (or equivalent) for less than 5 years who is directed or co-led by a regular member of the CTRN and whose project relates to one of the Centre's themes. This statutes must be validated annually.

1.5 Professional members

Any professional, technician, or other staff member, paid or not paid from the Centre's grants, whose services are made available to regular members and helping to carry out the research programming of the Center.

1.6 Distinguished members

Anyone who has carried out a remarkable activity at the Center can be named Emeritus member of the CTRN.

1.7 Honorary members

Anyone external to the Center but who makes an identifiable and recognized contribution to it can be appointed an honorary member of the CTRN.
